Lovable, the AI app builder, now lets you talk through an idea before you spend anything to build it. Lovable’s announcement gives every workspace, Free, Pro, and Business, a daily allowance of free chat. The allowance resets daily. Check your current allowance before planning a long session.
Chat lets you explore a request before handing work to Lovable’s credit-consuming Plan or Build modes. Build generates or changes code; planning can also consume credits without changing code. You can ask chat to weigh a product decision, review an app you’ve already built, or draft supporting material, all without touching your paid credits, as long as you stay inside the daily allowance.
Why it matters
The allowance gives existing users room to compare ideas before committing build credits. For example, you can discuss a booking flow or membership model before asking Lovable to implement it.
Free chat separates those two things. You can ask it to compare two approaches, pull in context from an app you’ve already connected, or turn a pile of customer feedback into a plan, and none of that touches your build budget. Lovable’s post gives concrete examples: asking whether to charge per session or per month for fitness classes, or questioning why a signup flow requires an account before someone can book.
Chat can also read your existing work. It can look at your app’s code, query the database if you’re using Lovable’s built-in database (Lovable Cloud), and pull in notes from tools you’ve connected, like Notion, Granola, or Linear, so it can review your project plans or meeting notes as part of the conversation.
The free allowance isn’t indefinite. Lovable’s post says the current pricing, including the daily allowance, applies through October 31, 2026. Check the terms again after that date rather than assuming the current allowance continues.
The line that still costs you money is clear: once chat generates an image or video, or hands work off to Plan or Build to actually change your app, that uses credits as usual, including credits available on a Free workspace. The free-chat allowance covers conversation within its daily limit; it does not cover those handoffs or media generation.
Who should care
Anyone using Lovable to build or maintain an app, especially if you’ve been rationing your build credits by skipping the planning conversation and jumping straight to a build prompt. This also matters if you’re on the Free tier and have been hesitant to “waste” your limited credits just asking a question.
What builders should do next
If you already use Lovable, describe one decision and ask chat to compare the tradeoffs before requesting implementation. Check the remaining daily allowance and review any handoff to Plan or Build so you know when credit use begins.
If you connect Notion, Granola, or Linear so chat can read your notes, check what access that connection grants before you approve it. Review the permission screen for what chat can read or change. Do not assume the connection is read-only.
Updated October 13, 2026: Plan handoffs can consume credits without changing app code, and the credit charge also applies to Free-workspace credits. The daily chat allowance does not cover media generation or Plan and Build handoffs.
