Correction, October 13, 2026: Claude Code’s storage exposure concerns saved OAuth tokens, and clearing them locally does not revoke a stolen copy. Enterprise Frontier Safeguards offers customer-owned monitoring storage as an opt-in control.

This week made coding agents more capable and less predictable to operate. GPT-6 Astra arrived in familiar tools at a higher price. Two reports also exposed ways existing agent permissions can become a security problem. The practical response is to test expensive models deliberately and narrow what agents can reach.

Coding Agents: Astra Arrives at a Premium

OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra for long, multi-step work. The company positions it for coding, computer use, and research. OpenAI reports benchmark gains; results on your own work may differ.

GitHub Copilot added GPT-6 Astra for Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users. GitHub bills it at OpenAI’s list price. OpenAI lists $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.

That is 2.5 times GPT-5.6 Sol’s current promotional rate. Tokens are the small pieces of text a model reads or generates. The cost can therefore rise quickly on long tasks with large codebases. Model selection can change how quickly the usage allowance is consumed.

Business and Enterprise administrators should check their Copilot model policy before the rollout reaches their teams. Astra may be available by default unless that policy limits model access. Test it on one repeated task first. Compare corrections, usage, and review effort with your usual model.

Coding Agents: Two Trust Gaps to Check Now

Researchers found that the GitSpawn vulnerability lets an unfamiliar project folder run hidden code before an agent asks for approval. The issue affected Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other agents.

It relies on a project that arrives with its own hidden .git directory. A normal git clone, which copies a repository directly from GitHub, is not affected. Claude Code fixed the main trigger. Its ultrareview command, an automated repository review feature, still needed a fix on September 1.

Claude Code’s MCP login storage raised a separate trust question. MCP, or Model Context Protocol, lets an agent act on services such as GitHub or Slack. On Linux and Windows, saved OAuth tokens sit in a file protected by account permissions, without application-level encryption.

Those are different problems with the same operational lesson. An agent can act with permissions you granted for another purpose. Do not open unfamiliar folders casually. Remove service logins you no longer need. If a token may have been stolen, revoke its service authorization too.

Keep sensitive agent work in accounts and environments with limited access.

Coding Agents: Capacity and Model Access Are Moving

Claude Code’s weekly allowance changes on September 14. Anthropic will replace a temporary 50% boost with a permanent 25% boost. That is still above the original limit, but 17% below the temporary level heavy users have had.

Run /usage before the change takes effect. It shows how close you are to your weekly limit. If you are near the cap, decide which long sessions need Claude Code most. That is more useful than waiting for a busy week to reveal the constraint.

OpenAI also plans to end Cursor’s direct access to its models on November 12. The stated date may change, but the immediate builder task does not. Run one known task with the alternative models you would use. Compare results before a deadline forces a change.

Anthropic also announced Enterprise Frontier Safeguards. It plans to offer eligible customers opt-in storage of monitoring activity data in customer-controlled infrastructure. The phased rollout starts later this fall. Teams with compliance needs should check availability and terms when it reaches their account.

AI Builders: Small Changes Remove Repeated Friction

Bolt.new added Visual Edits, a toolbar for changing visible text, fonts, and colors. It removes a prompt round trip for small visual changes. Saved batches still use tokens, so it is not a free undo system.

v0 added a one-step publish flow for GitHub-backed projects. It combines branch, pull request, and deployment steps. The value is fewer handoffs, not less need to review what reaches production.

Lovable also began using Claude Fable 5.1. Lovable says the model improves work on existing apps. Its reported gains come from internal benchmarks. Check behavior on an existing feature before assigning a broad rewrite.

Workflow: Give Agents a Clear Point to Stop

The Hugging Face incident showed why agent autonomy needs operational boundaries. This week, Wharton professor Ethan Mollick used it to ask a more practical question: when should an agent ask a human before acting?

His examples include spending money, using sensitive access, work needing specialist judgment, and decisions that need more viewpoints. Those are sensible approval points for any builder using standing agent permissions.

Set the stop point before the task begins. An approval after an agent has already reached a cloud account or production data is too late. The more access a task has, the more explicit its handoff rule should be.

Infra & Deployment: Check Status Before Debugging Your Own Setup

On September 3, Claude, ChatGPT and Codex, and Grok had elevated errors within a few hours. Anthropic’s status page shows its incident was resolved in about three hours. Cursor also reported degraded Grok and Anthropic model performance that day.

The incident reports did not name a shared cause. That matters because correlation is not an explanation. When several agents fail at once, check provider status pages before changing prompts, credentials, or deployment settings. It can save hours of unnecessary debugging.

What Was Noise

GitHub Copilot added Gemini 3.8 Flash and scheduled several older models for retirement on October 2. That is routine catalog maintenance. It only needs action if you have pinned a workflow to a retiring model.

Vercel AI Gateway also announced short promotional prices for several models. A temporary discount is not a lasting stack decision. Use it only if you already planned to run that model and can measure the cost after the offer ends.

What to Watch

Watch Claude Code usage before September 14. Test your Cursor alternatives before November 12. Look for a fix to Claude Code’s remaining ultrareview exposure before using it on an untrusted project.
